Hello, I'm Dr. Melissa Turner
Working for 10 years in independent and retail pharmacies, I saw so many people struggle with taking medications either because it didn't help treat their condition or the medicine caused adverse side effects. I knew there had to be a better way.
That is why I founded Tarheel PGx Consulting. I want people to be on the right medication based on their DNA. Rather than trying medication and hoping it works, we use your genetic information from a pharmacogenomic (PGx) test to cut down on the need for trial-and-error prescribing. We can learn so much about how you may or may not respond to medications based on your genetics.
Your genetics can also give us the information we need to know how you absorb, transport, and utilize micronutrients, such as, vitamins, choline, and zinc. Nutrigenomics (NGx) looks at variations in your DNA and how they affect your immune health, glucose metabolism, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal health. Other areas that where NGx can help include detoxification, metabolic and weight management, cognitive health and memory. Your genetics also influence energy and fitness (exercise performance type, injury risk, and exercise response). We cannot diagnose or prescribe based on a nutrigenomics report.
I live in Angier, North Carolina with my husband and our three dogs. When I am not working, I enjoy reading, traveling, being outside, and spending time with my family and friends.
My faith and relationship with God are very important to me so that's why we'll always be closed on Sunday. That is a day to worship, go to church, and rest.
